In this system, electronic mail is sent to a list of customers who have willingly given their information and have consented to receive promotional messages from a certain company. These messages are sent at a predetermined time interval and may contain updates about the company, new promotions, and special offers. A lot of companies have already attested to the success of email marketing in terms of creating awareness for their company and products, increasing traffic to their websites, and increasing their return of investment. However, the true potential of the medium doesn”t stop there. Through email marketing, especially one that is sustained and regularly updated, the real reward is in establishing customer loyalty and in doing repeat businesses with them.

A way in which email marketing strategy achieves this is through email newsletters . Unlike sending out your typical email message, which may be erratic in nature, email newsletters are sent out on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis depending on the distribution schedule previously determined by the company. With such a potent marketing tool at your disposal, you should be able to use it to its full potential. Listed below are three basic ways to do that.

1. Focus on content.
This is the space where you can communicate to potential customers and returning buyers what your company is all about and what your products are so take the time to go over your content. As beneficial as template design is in drawing the attention of those who will read the newsletter, the content is inevitably what will make them stay and possibly make purchases from you. Do your research on the preferences of your customers and incorporate them in your content. Be sure also to make it interesting, clear, compelling, and useful. People don”t like to have their time wasted so make good use of it.

2. Focus on relationships.
The system that underlies email newsletters provides you with an opportunity to systematically expand and maintain your relationships with customers, so utilize it well. Realize that you are connecting with people who are most likely to purchase your products meaning that they are the life of your business. Be mindful of the topics that you write about and of the way you talk to them.

3. Keep it real.
Another advantage of using email is that you can drop most of the formalities associated with business, because as a medium, email can be informal and is one on one. So whatever you put on your newsletter, be sure to keep it real. Engage them as you would do in person and you”re sure that they will feel the warmth and this will translate to good results for you.
