Building Links Without Going Crazy
By Gary Hall
When it comes to your search engine optimization strategy the most important thing to consider is your link building. Unfortunately link building is also the most frustrating, time intensive and downright boring thing on your to do list.
Bloggers across the web have lamented the importance on link building and are always wondering when the search engines will start putting more emphasis on something that is not so mind boggling dull and difficult to do. Then again they just answered their question, that’’s exactly why Link Popularity is so important, Its not something anyone can sit down and do will in a couple of minutes.
Link building allows you to effectively vote for your favorite websites. It takes a long time to get a good number of quality links with the correct anchor text in place. It is hard but its not impossible. There are a few different strategies that can be used to get everything done the right way.
Link Baiting
Why chase links when you can have them chase you? Link Baiting is the practice of creating a very “linkable” page or article. Build a “101 list” or “ten easy steps to…” article, then start putting it on Digg, Del.icio.us, and Stumble Upon. Ask friends to link to your page and send emails to everyone you know with a link back to your website. The goal here is to make something very easy to use that people in your industry will want to link to so you don”t have to go looking for links yourself.
Make sure while you are doing this to make your content easy to read, with few grammatical and spelling errors. Remember you are trying to become an expert in your field that people will want to refer to. It’’s hard to trust someone who doesn”t know how to spell correctly, after all your posting this online you have spell checker right there!
Pay for Traffic
Obviously using a pay per click campaign is a great way to drive traffic to your website. You can also use your pay per click account to build links to your website. Instead of just going after your high conversion keywords put a couple hundred dollars towards “do it yourself” and “free” based keywords. Write an article about how to “do it yourself” and have the PPC campaign link to this article. If you got each click for around 10 cents you would have thousands of users coming to see your “free” how to page. A few of them will inevitably link back to you.
Syndication
If you are going to write an article why just put it on one website? There are countless article sites that will place your article, as long as it is well written, on their sites. For a fee most of these article services will actually get your article syndicated on many other sites as well. Make sure to submit only to sites that will link back to you.
Why stop with articles, you can syndicate press releases as well. Write a newsworthy, compelling press release and email it to some online journalists and bloggers. There are also press release services like PRWeb that will syndicate your press release along with a link back to your website, for a fee of course.
As you can see there are allot of things that can be done to speed up the link building process other than mindlessly entering into every directory you can find. Don”t forget to be courteous and try asking for links, for example if you liked this article you could link to our website. Build a professional relationship with other people in your industry and ask other webmasters to link back to your website.
