Selling by E-mail: A Paperless Revolution
By Taylor Martinerin
Selling a product does not need to be as humdrum today as it has been in the past. The 21st century has seen an upsurge in technologies that have linked consumers with products in ways never before imagined, including radio, television, and the internet. E-mail might be the most remarkable of all these technologies in respect to selling a product. Email is quick, quiet, safe, and has many applications in the sector of the business world devoted to sales. Email is used in sales to advertise, conduct payment for, receive feedback on and thank customers for buying a product.
Once a customer signs up to a company’’s mailing list, advertisement becomes cheap and effective. A short and to the point email can inform consumers of the latest sales. A good writer and graphic designer will go far in making the use of email advertisement effective. It is important that the email not be too wordy, dense or brightly colored. On the other hand it is important to not say too little or have the email be too blank. A company advertising with email could also tout themselves as a “green company” for promoting paperlessly, regardless of the company’’s actual practices. If properly researched and conducted, a company could really take advantage of the free and easy advertising that email has the potential to provide.
Payment
In today’’s age of credit cards there really isn”t a need for face-face transactions or paper receipts. Email is able to serve as a paperless form of receipt, saving money for the company, and as a convenient payment reminded that can be easily archived and later accessed for the customer.
Feedback and Complaints
After a transaction has been completed, a company could send a short survey to customers asking about the experience. There are many free survey generators and so the survey, like the sending of the email, would be completely free. This would allow companies to gain valuable insight into the online experience of their customers. Meanwhile the customers are more likely to return to the company for another transaction because the receipt of the survey means that the company values their opinions and patronage. This is a win-win.
Saying Thank You
Throughout life, and especially in the world of business, there are few hearts that gratitude does not warm. A thank you email to every customer upon the completion of their transaction would be free and could be made automatic. The process is simple but the message is strong. By saying thank you a company not only expresses happiness of another sale but says, in a way, welcome to the family.
