Building Strong Relationships With Your Email List - The Key To Success?
By James Woolley
Many people rush into email marketing without really having a solid plan in place first. They will sign up with an autoresponder service, create an opt-in page, and start sending traffic to this page. Then they will immediately start sending lots of promotional messages to their list in the hope of making as much money as possible. However this is the wrong way to go about things.
The correct and most profitable way of building a highly profitable list is to develop a strong relationship with your list. Indeed you should make this a priority because if people are interested in what you have to say and they value your opinions, then you will obviously see very high open rates, and if you promote good quality products you should see a large volume of sales as well.
Now obviously I”m not implying that you should get to know every single person on your list, but you should interact with your subscribers and try and respond to every single comment and question you receive. This way you will build a reputation as someone who is genuinely looking to help people, rather than someone who is looking to make a quick buck.
You should also provide good quality content to your list on a regular basis and ideally from the moment someone joins your list. By doing so you will again build up a strong relationship with your list as a whole and will therefore generate more sales when you do finally recommend a particular product.
My general strategy for each of my email lists is to provide nothing but free (and original) content for at least the first couple of weeks before attempting to send a promotional email. Sometimes I will include a one time offer at the beginning or mention a product that I recommend within this free content, but I will generally just offer some good quality content so I quickly earn the trust of my new subscribers. As I”ve already mentioned, once you”ve built up this level of trust, it’’s then a lot easier to make sales (providing you recommend good quality products of course).
Building a highly profitable email list is not really that difficult. You simply have to treat your subscribers as actual people rather than a cash machine. Overdeliver on your promises and deliver lots of good quality content on a regular basis because this will help you establish a very strong relationship with your list and will result in greater long-term profits. This is certainly a much better strategy than simply building a list and bombarding them with sales messages all the time.
