Search Engine Optimisation And Internet Marketing Practice

Some say that days of traditional marketing are dead since the high street has closed many doors to the everyday consumer, as the everyday consumer turns to the internet for indulging consumerist desires. Despite the fact that times are changing and shopping habits are becoming armchair based, there are still a whole host of traditional strategies used to encourage a customer to part with precious cash. We take a look at search engine optimisation to reveal how the marketing men and women are still working their magic.

Search engine optimisation is the process of designing and promoting a website in a manner that is seen as relevant according to search engine spiders. These virtual beings literally crawl pages of a website to determine whether or not it is relevant and if it actually contains what it says on the tin, as it were. Due to the fact that online business is so competitive, some companies use underhanded procedures to get into the top listings of search engines, often promoting one product but in fact containing another. This is the equivalent of putting a shop on the high street that displays a sign that implies it sells a desirable product such as designer handbags and yet contains broken car parts.

The marketing within web pages is the same as marketing within a physical space. A shop needs to be well lit, nicely decorated, tidy and the products need to be displayed attractively; if these factors are not right, customers will not want to spend their money. Search engine optimisation creates a similar sort of ambiance within a website. The site will sell what it promotes, it will be clean, fresh and well designed, and each product will be easy to find, and easy to pay for.

If a website displays all of these features it will not only impress virtual creepy crawlies which will put it higher up the listings in search engine results, it will impress the happy shopper, and they will spend their money. The content that is displayed within the pages is just as important as the design, and could be compared to the patter of a shop based sales person. Search engine optimisation specialists will ensure that all the relevant information about a product or service is on the correct page, and deliver a sales line that cannot be resisted so the shopper does not go elsewhere.

Search engine optimisation has taken the words and wisdom of the marketing professionals and learned to deliver it in a medium that has become the method du jour for shopping.
