Do you know that the average person spends more time reading his email in a day than he spends doing any other things? Email has become the most popular communication channel. Sometimes, it even becomes a distraction for him because his email often distracts him from doing other things. As you can see, email marketing can be a very powerful weapon in your arsenal if you know how to use it well.

Now, let me share with you 5 best email marketing practices that will help you get more business out of your list.

1. Don”t always pitch in your emails. When every email is a pitch, your subscribers will get irritated and treat your emails as spam. So make sure that you provide them with useful information and updates other than pitches. Nowadays, most email service providers have powerful spam filters to block spam mails. Sometime, they also block legitimate emails. So do avoid using words like “Free”, “Discount” and “Coupons” in the subject line of your email. This will prevent your emails being sent straight to the junk box.

2. Make your email personal. When you are creating the content of your email campaign, remember to speak to your subscribers as individuals, not as a generic group. Address your subscribers by their first names to make your emails more personal. A personalized email will build a stronger rapport and trust with your subscribers.

3. Provide an unsubscribe link at the bottom of your email. When your subscribers feel that it is very difficult for them to unsubscribe from your list, they will view your emails as spam. So provide an easy way to unsubscribe. Just bear in mind that for those who wish to leave, you cannot stop them. So why not make it easier for them to leave so that at least they will not hate you? Your unsubscribe link should take your subscribers to a page where they can unsubscribe immediately.

4. Deliver what you promise to your subscribers. If you promise they will get an e-book after they opt-in, deliver it. If you promise to email your subscribers once a week, make sure that you do it. When you deliver what you promise, you build trust with your subscribers and they will stay loyal to your list. And don”t change the format of your newsletter or email unnecessarily. When people are used to the old format, they are resistant to change.
