Like they say that Rome was not built in a day, the results of SEM also take some time to appear. The results also vary as per the different techniques that you are using. Most of the SEM techniques include the three major factors: SEO; PPC; and, PFI. In addition, some of the SEM techniques also include network mailing and other methods. The more methods you use, the sooner you can see the results of your efforts. As such, there is no criteria on which you can measure the effectiveness of your SEM campaign.
Measuring the SEM Effectiveness
To measure the SEM, first of all you need to consider two things. The first is the objective and the second is the types of methods used. You can calculate or measure the effectiveness of each technique separately and then combine the different results to get the overall picture of your efforts.
As said above, the main purpose for most SEM is to increase the traffic to your website. You will have to check out what all methods were used and which methods bought in more results in a given time frame, for example, one month.
Keeping the Website Active for Faster Results
Among the different methods to evaluate the SEM effectiveness is to see how much impact the campaign had on your business. In the above case, it clearly shows that you had a website prior to the campaign. In such case, you will have to make a note of the percentage of increase in the traffic to your website after you started the SEM. The results will vary per technique or element of the SEM. For SEO, it may take a long time before the search engines actually start showing your website in the search results. Until then, you have to constantly keep the content updated on frequent intervals. In fact, the SEO is an ongoing process wherein you need to keep on updating the content on your website.
Effectiveness in case of New Websites
In case you are starting from scratch, the time taken to list your website with major search engines such as Yahoo and Google itself will be around two weeks. Thereafter, it will take another few months to get the page to top using back-links and content updating methods.
The other methods are somewhat faster. PPC and PFI will fetch you targeted customers as your ads are placed on different websites and the site URL is listed in hundreds of web directories.
