You are the one that sees the big picture and needs to break it down into its smaller parts in order to complete the vision. If you are not a self-starter, then do not even consider starting your own business.

Do others consider you a leader? Do you consider yourself a leader? Are you comfortable with making decisions? In a small business, decisions must be made quickly, under duress, and on your own. This factor can make or break a small business.

Do you get along well with others? A small business owner must be able to deal with a variety of people in a variety of situations. They have to deal with unsatisfied customers, unfair vendors, and overworked employees. If you do not have the personality to withstand a wide variety of people, then you may not want to start your own business.

Running your own business requires a great deal of physical and emotional stamina. Are you able to work long hours for an extended period of time? Do you deal with stress well? Individual stress is a major factor in the failure of small businesses. If the business owner is not able to deal with the day to day stresses of running a business, it will not succeed.

Small business owners must be organized both physically and emotionally. The organization of a business includes planning. Planning has the most impact on the success of a small business.
- Passion
Starting your own business requires dedication and conviction. Without the drive and passion of someone who truly loves what they are doing, the small business owner may not have the ability to sustain the business before it becomes profitable.
Finally, if you are considering starting your own business, you should take into account where you are in your life. If you have a family, especially a family with small kids, this might not be the best time to start a business. Small businesses can put a strain on both marriages and families. If you do start your own business, your family should be supportive and understanding.
