Those who are familiar with the internet, must have heard about affiliate marketing at some point. In an affiliate program, you have a website owner and an online merchant. They both enter into a revenue sharing agreement. On the basis of this agreement, the website owner places advertisements on his/her websites to sell the merchant’’s products and services. In return for that (s)he earns a commission. Now the commission could vary from a few cents, to thousands of dollars.
Ways To Earn
Affiliate marketing can be very profitable, provided you know what it is and how it works. Let’’s first discuss exactly how you earn money by joining an affiliate program. There are 3 ways in which an affiliate program can pay you. The first way is by pay per click. Under this program you”ll be paid every time a visitor on your site clicks on the link which will lead that person to the merchant’’s site. Depending on the program, you can be paid anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars, for every click that leads to the merchant’’s site.
Many affiliate marketing programs pay per sale. In other words, every time a visitor on your site clicks on the merchant’’s link, and then goes on to make a purchase on the merchant’’s site, you”ll be paid a commission. This commission will be deposited in your account.
There are affiliate marketing programs that”ll pay per lead. This means that every time a visitor from your site goes to the merchant’’s site and registers, you”ll be paid a certain amount. This amount is predetermined, that means you would”ve agreed to this amount when you signed on to join the program.
It’’s Not So Easy
As you can see, affiliate marketing is a great way to earn some extra money. Many people earn more than just extra money; they earn far more than they”ve ever earned before. Many even leave their jobs to focus their efforts entirely on their affiliate program(s). I must add a word of caution at this point. Affiliate marketing is indeed a great way to earn extra money, but it’’s not easy. You shouldn”t be under the impression that you can earn money by doing very little or nothing at all. You”ll have to devote at least 4 to 5 hours (perhaps more) everyday. Plus, you have to be creative and innovative in your marketing techniques.
Now you know that affiliate marketing isn”t that easy. However, before you go and join an affiliate program, there are some pitfalls that you must avoid. Before joining a program, you must do some research about the merchant. There”ve been cases where merchants have simply folded up their business without informing the affiliates. Such cases are rare, but you should always be alert.
You must also understand that affiliate marketing will get the cash in your account, but you”ll have to be patient. Sometimes it takes months for the results to show. So don”t give up. Your constant efforts will earn you rich dividends sooner or later.
